Savings September

How the hell did August zip away so quick? Oh yeah, I know. Because I spent about half of the month in England, then I was anxious to find out on the final day I found out I’m getting a niece!

Getting a Niece

Therefore it absolutely makes sense that September is here so soon.

I have decided to dedicate this month to saving money. Not because I’m hurting (I’m privileged enough to have a decent paying job and not have a ton of bills) but because I want to get ahead of the game and make it a priority to save. I have looked on Pinterest to find savings ideas and I found a ton of “no spend” date ideas etc. I decided to make some ground rules that I’m sure I’ll end up breaking.

They include:

  1. Going out to eat only once.
  2. Every $5 bill I come across gets tucked away.
  3. I will not move any money from my savings to my checking account unless it’s an emergency.
  4. No buying non-necessities.
  5. There will be no visits for hair, threading, or waxing.
  6. Limit buying fast food and cook more.
  7. Think about a purchase overnight before I spontaneously buy something I think I need.

Luckily I’ve taken care of my loans this month, so I don’t have to stress about that.

The tough part about saving money is that I’ve gotten used to treating myself to the occasional book (mind you I usually buy them super used from amazon third party sellers) or luxury appointments like massages and hair coloring, but still that adds up.

Side note: I recently bought Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society and when I opened the package, I found this…

Wrong book delivery

I got my money back and was allowed to keep the book which is nice but I have t-minus 6 minutes to reorder it before I officially turns midnight and Savings September begins. Therefore I probably have to wait until October to buy it…unless I can speed order it now!

*please hold while I make an unnecessary late night purchase*

Midnight shopping

12:00am it’s officially September!

I think another reason I’m saving up is for fun stuff like driving to NYC to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child with my mom. Theater tickets in NYC are not cheap. Going to have to put off that trip for a bit…

I already know I need to break the rules because someone I love has got a September birthday and they deserve an awesome present. Perhaps I can make one.

I’ve really enjoyed this kind of stream of consciousness blog tonight. Felt good.

Until next time,

Julia
