Theories About Crimes of Grindelwald

SPOILERS AHEAD!

In my not so humble opinion, this was a great movie! I honestly do not trust movie reviews anymore because the new Halloween movie got glowing reviews and it turned out to be garbage, while this amazing movie is getting lukewarm reviews.

If you enjoy the Harry Potter movies and you enjoy the Wizarding World, this movie at the very least is going to be a lot of fun. I highly recommend that you go see it!

Let’s get right into the good stuff. Queen Rowling wrote this movie script which I think is incredible and makes me trust this movie more than the first one as far as the plot goes. What I am most curious about since I left the theater is how truthful people are being in this movie. Was Leta telling the truth about swapping out the babies? Was Grindelwald lying about Credence’s true identity?

Leta Lestrange (non-blood relative of Bellatrix Lestrange) had good reason to lie to Yusuf, her half-brother. She wanted to spare Credence. While all signs point to her telling the truth, I think there is a chance that she could have been lying to protect Credence. She did have a conversation with Albus earlier in the movie. He could have told her off screen to protect Credence as he told Newt. Let’s say she is lying and Credence is her brother. What does that mean for the next movie? It’s hard to say.

If she is telling the truth, and Grindelwald is as well. That means Credence is actually Aurelius Dumbledore. Now, we know from the Harry Potter books that Albus had two siblings, Aberforth and Ariana. That’s it. Do I think that Aurelius is Albus’s brother? No I don’t. Do I think Credence is a Dumbledore? Abso-freaking-lutely. He has a phoenix (perhaps Fawkes?) which solidifies his Dumbledore lineage. If he was a brother to Albus, we would have already known. Albus would have been 20 when Credence was born considering his birthday is accurate. His mother Kendra died before Credence (Aurelius) was born. Therefore him being a brother is highly unlikely. That is unless his birthday is not truthful and he is a bit older than we think he is. Therefore it’s possible to be a son of Kendra’s.

Grindelwald specifically says that Aurelius is a brother to someone trying to destroy him. Let’s make that very clear. He doesn’t say, “Albus wants to kill you.” He just said “brother.” I think that is VERY important. Could he mean Aberforth?

Aurelius Name Meaning

Queen Rowling never names a character without it being somewhat important. Umbridge was named because of her personality, Nagini was named after a Indian folklore about a woman/snake creature which we find out she is in this movie, and Lupin literally means wolf. I think that perhaps the name Aurelius might be a clue about who Credence is.

Ariana Dumbledore
Warner Bros. Pictures

The name means golden or gilded. Ariana (their youngest sister) is a derivative of a Welsh name that means… silver. I wonder if that means anything. I’m researching all of this real time so you’re coming along on this journey. Is it possible that Ariana gave birth to a child? She died in 1899. It is believed that Credence was born in 1901. If there were liberties taken, and there could have been because his identity is already so confusing, he very well could have been Ariana’s son. Perhaps that is why they had to hide her from the world. I heard someone say that Ariana was an Obscurus which J.K. Rowling all but confirmed. Wouldn’t it make sense for her child to also be an Obscurus?

If we acknowledge that liberties could be taken with Credence’s birthday, we also have to open back up the possibility that Credence is Kendra’s son. It would have to have been a half-brother as Percival Dumbledore was in Azkaban when Credence was born (and I don’t think dementors allowed conjugal visits). I think that either theory is likely and I cannot wait for the next movie to be released so we can find out the whole truth!

Aurelius = Marcus Aurelius (military leader renowned for wisdom and empathy – see Meditations).
You have many points in this article that need much more thought. Leta said Corvus was dead. The family tree showed Corvus was dead. Isn’t the family tree magical? Does it automatically update? If so, how could Leta have lied? What did she lie about?
There are many such instances in your article that need to dig deeper.
Whilst you didn’t touch on this second topic, it relates to research. There’s controversy around Johnny Depp with Amber Heard. Q: what’s Amber Heard’s history with past partners (see: a history of unsubstantiated accusations for a hint). Q: did a qualified professional comment on Amber’s ‘black eye’ photo? (Hint: see the word ‘makeup’). Q: people close to the couple almost exclusively took one person’s side (and called the other a liar) – who was accused of lying? OBS: the media continually ‘accidentally forget’ to acknowledge any of these pieces of information. Q: why do the media collectively ‘accidentally forget to’ investigate certain topics? OBS: the media can be collectively seen to exclude qualified expert assessment continually on many related topics – which could be argued to undermine the entire media industry (see ‘fake news’). It’s a steep price to pay to allow ‘journalists’ (and I use that word loosely) to say whatever they want, even if it contradicts known evidence. Q: why would the media collectively repeat the same misinformation? Are there themes to this misinformation? What do the ‘journalists’ gain through this misinformation? Are there consequences on society that result from this behaviour? Is this misinformation beneficial or harmful? Is it linked to an ideology?
