Post-Travel Blues

I get this every single time I come home from a trip. It could be a day trip or a two week vacation and I would still feel it. Like many other people, I like getting away. I enjoy unplugging from my daily life. Coming home blows. That’s the honest truth. Once the hustle and monotony of travel is done and I’m standing in my room, I sort of sink.

My to-do lists spring up again and the stressors that I nearly completely forgot about feel even worse than before. I think that’s why I like planning trips when I get home. It keeps up the feeling that the fun isn’t over. Currently, I’m mapping out every spot I want to visit. I think it’s helpful to combat the post-travel blues.

Currently, my blues is hitting me in a way that is making me want to clean. I love staying in a hotel and getting to keep it nice and neat and orderly. Coming home to piles of papers that need to get in the mail and sheets that have to be washed and clumsily placed objects in my room makes me truly blue. I have the strong ability to be messy and when I get in the clean, orderly mindset that comes with travel, it’s hard to recognize that I’m not the same person I am at home.

This whole post probably sounds like I’m the least grateful person ever. I promise, I feel so blessed to be able to even experience traveling. It’s a gift that not everyone will know. However, this is still an extremely valid emotion. If you feel these post-travel blues, please let me know how you push through. I’m looking for tips because even my handy to-do lists aren’t cutting it.

Until next time,

Julia
